FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a referral before making an appointment?
You do not need a referral to book an appointment to see us. However, a GP referral - also called a Mental Health Care Plan - will allow you to claim the Medicare rebate for your sessions.
How does a Mental Health Care Plan work?
A Mental Health Care Plan entitles you to claim the Medicare rebate ($131.65) for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. After your first six sessions, we provide your GP with an update on your mental health and therapeutic progress and request a review of your Mental Health Care Plan for an additional four sessions.
How do I claim the Medicare rebate?
You do not have to do anything; we automatically process your Medicare rebate ($131.65) at the end of each session.
I have an NDIS plan…
Allied Psychology Group is able to work with individuals who have an NDIS package that is self and plan managed. Please contact us to discuss how your plan can be best used and answer any of your questions.
How much do the sessions cost?
A standard 50-minute psychological consultation (with another 10 minutes allowed for fee processing and appointment booking) is $225 and payment is required in full at the end of each session. For NDIS clients, Allied Psychology Group follows the commission’s guidelines regarding session fees.
Can I claim the cost of the sessions under my private health insurance?
It depends on your private health insurance coverage and policy; we therefore advice that you check with your health fund first. Please note that it is not possible to claim the cost of the session on both the Medicare rebate and your private health insurance.
What can I expect at my first appointment?
At your first appointment, your psychologist will ask you some questions about the issues that bring you to therapy. During this assessment, provisional mental health diagnoses may be provided if relevant. Your psychologist may also discuss your goals for therapy as well as the treatment options available before booking your next appointment. This is also a chance for you to get to know your psychologist, so feel free to ask as many questions as you need at any point.
How long do sessions go for?
Sessions are generally 50 minutes, with another 10 minutes allowed for fee processing and appointment booking.
Can I get an after-hours appointment?
Yes, we provide appointments until 8pm on some weekdays.
What days are you available?
Cecile is available on Wednesdays 12pm to 8pm and Thursdays from 9:30am to 4:30pm.
Daniel is available on Mondays from 9:30am to 6pm, Tuesdays from 1:30pm to 8:30pm, and Fridays from 9:30am to 4:30pm.
